4 Natural Hair Treatments for Shiny and Gorgeous Locks

4 Natural Hair Treatments for Shiny and Gorgeous Locks

Many people, especially women, tend to spend an incredible amount of money in the hopes of achieving picture-perfect hair. There are so many products on the market catering to this desire – deep conditioners, hair masks, etc. – that it can make your head spin.
However, these products are often laden with chemical additives, many of which are not on the label and are potentially harmful, and can serve to worsen the condition of your hair over time, rather than help.
Have no fear: the solution to gorgeous hair lies in nature.

First step – detoxification Years of using conventional shampoos, conditioners and other hair products can leave your hair limp, dry, frizzy and generally lackluster. In order to start reversing the damage, it’s time to ditch the chemical products.
However, this hair detox process requires patience: as your hair has become so accustomed to the chemicals in these shampoos and conditioners, it may feel oily for up to a month after you stop using them. Don’t give up; stick to organic shampoos and conditioners, and while your hair may not feel so great at first, after about a month, it will look and feel worlds better.
It may also help to cut down how often you wash your hair, to give it a chance to replenish its natural oils. Every other day, or even two or three times a week, is sufficient for most hair types.

Natural “hot oil” treatment – jojoba and coconut oil
To bring some much-needed nourishment to dry hair and split ends, a combination of one part organic, extra virgin coconut oil and one part jojoba oil is just the ticket for a homemade hot oil treatment. Simply warm up the mixture slightly in a saucepan (make sure its not too hot), and apply. Leave in for about 20 minutes, then rinse.
Jojoba oil, which comes from an evergreen shrub native to the southwest US and parts of Mexico, also helps to cleanse and moisturize your scalp, and encourages hair growth.
Egg whites for oily hair
If you’re frustrated with greasy, oily hair, egg whites are the answer. Simply collect about ¼ to 3/4 cup of egg whites, depending on how much hair you have, and apply. Wait for about 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with cool water, before cleansing hair with an organic shampoo.
Hair seriously zapped? Try a honey mask
Bleaching, dyeing and heat-styling hair, as well as sun damage, can leave your hair looking absolutely fried. If yours is in need of some intense repair, combine honey with the meat of a ripe avocado in your hands, and smooth generously over your hair. If the mixture is too thick, add a bit of organic coconut oil. Leave on for about 25 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
