Membership Associate
Fare & Square is based on a
non-profit grocery store model and is in development to open Summer 2013 in
Chester, PA. Fare & Square will give Chester, PA residents the access to
“good food right around the corner” that has not been available to these
resident in a full scale grocery store. Fare & Square will sell nutritious
food staples with a focus on fresh produce, meats, dairy, seafood, and frozen
foods. Fare & Square will help stretch customers dollars so that they get
more for their money.
Position Description
The Membership Associate will conduct outreach and enrollment of prospective members for Fare & Square. The Membership Associate effectively interacts and engages with prospective and current Fare & Square members both in store and at off-site locations. He or she will: perform accurate and confidential input of member account information into the database; retrieve secured products; and operate POS, completing customer transactions and processing refunds. The Membership Coordinator will partner with the team in providing excellent customer service and provide support to the Membership Manager.

Specific Responsibilities:
Communications
- Gathers and accurately enters in to the database
information from and about prospective and current members
- Proactively engages in customer and prospective
customer interaction; demonstrating listening skills, patience, and a

- Respect and comply with confidentially and privacy
laws, as well as company policies
- Provides information to individuals, answers
their questions, and gathers their comments for future consideration
- Resolves membership concerns, escalating when indicated
Database Management
- Maintains accurate/up-to-date records in membership
database and paper files
- Maintains privacy and confidentiality of data
Member Services/Customer Service
- Manages processes related to new member enrollment and
member benefits, including member orientation support
- Upholds store standard of customer service excellence
by providing excellent customer service – treating all members and
potential members respectfully, politely, and with a sense of urgency
- Address customer queries and concerns, escalating when
indicated
- Maintains integrity and confidentiality of information
and data
- Addresses and maintains needs of Member Desk including
POS, completing transactions, and bagging purchases when indicated
- Processing returns according to store policy
- Retrieving secured items for members
- Upholds store standard of customer service excellence
- Adheres to loss prevention policies and practices
Other Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe and orderly work area
- Relieve cashiers in completing customer transactions,
including bagging of customer purchases when indicated
- Assist in other front end services such as stocking of
items, retrieving carts, and other duties that may be required for overall
store conditions and customer service
Qualifications and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years of relevant work or volunteer experience
(retail or customer service preferred)
- Experience working with a database
- 1-2 years minimum experience in customer service or a
clerical role
- Basic computer literacy skills; experience with
Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience in working in a team environment
- Experience in POS and payment methods such as SNAP,
EBT, credit and debit (a plus)
- Ability and willingness to work a part-time schedule during
store operation times; 8AM to 8PM seven days a week, including most
holidays
