Volunteer Income Tax Assistance at PathWays PA
PathWays PA is recruiting Volunteers to help low-income families and individuals access their 2013 Federal and State Tax Refunds though its VITA program. Last year, volunteer tax preparers with PathWays PA assisted more than 2,500 individuals and families in Greater Philadelphia, Camden, and Delaware County. Together, we brought over $3.7 million in tax returns back to local families and business owners.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is designed as a free alternative to commercial tax preparation services, and is specifically focused on helping individuals access the maximum refund available on their taxes. Every year, millions of dollars in tax refunds go unclaimed. VITA helps people claim the credits and refunds to which they are entitled and provides individuals with the funds they need to achieve their long-term financial goals.
Volunteer Positions Available:
• Volunteer Tax Preparers
• Volunteer Quality Reviewers
• Greeters
Free Volunteer Training
• Interested Volunteer Tax Preparers and Quality Reviewers are responsible for obtaining their certification from the IRS by completing the Basic Level online tax preparation course through Link and Learn.
• Link and Learn is self-paced, and there is an open-book style test at the end, which completes the certification process.
• PathWays PA provides volunteers with all Link and Learn training materials and a free course on TaxWise software.
VITA volunteers in the past have found their roles especially rewarding. Certified hands-on experience in tax preparation not only teaches volunteers how to get the most out of their own tax returns, but also serves as a fantastic skill to add to their resume. More importantly, each volunteer provides a valuable service to families and business owners in their community.
We’re looking for volunteers for approximately 3-4 hours per week during tax season.
