Job Posting - Executive Vice President


Please Touch Museum (the Children’s Museum of Philadelphia®) is a non-profit organization accredited by the American Association of Museums, with an $8 million operating budget, seeks an Executive Vice President (EVP) who will assist the CEO of the Please Touch Museum (PTM) into its next chapter. This person will head up all revenue generating activities to better secure the organization’s fiscal health as well as enhancing its profile locally, regionally, and nationally as an exemplar of the critical role of hands-on unstructured play in early childhood development. He/she will serve as one of the primary “faces and voices” for the institution, serving as a passionate advocate and chief fundraiser for its mission to promote independent learning and creativity in young people. They will directly manage communications activities that promote, enhance, and protect the organization's brand reputation.

 

The EVP is responsible for the following disciplines: Strategy: In close collaboration with the CEO, assist in developing, articulating, and implementing a vision and strategy for PTM that will provide a path to attain the mission in a financially sustainable manner. Fundraising: In partnership with the CEO, assume overall responsibility for raising contributed revenue from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government sources. Supervise the VP, Development, to map out a strategy to enhance fundraising outcomes and carry out that plan. Marketing Communications and Earned Revenue: Assume overall responsibility for marketing PTM and managing its earned revenue programs, to include visitation, membership, sponsorship, events, advertising, public relations, and social media. Supervise the VP, External Relations to map out a strategy to enhance revenue generation and execute that plan. External Relations: Serve as one of the external spokespersons of the PTM to the community locally, regionally, and nationally, serving as a leader among peers in the field and an ambassador to the general public, media, business, educational, and government leaders, as well as other constituents. Organizational Leadership and Development: Foster a working environment that is high performing as well as a culture that is fun and playful, coaching the current team to success and recruiting other staff members as needed to enable the execution of the annual operating plans and to enhance the overall impact of PTM

 

Requirements: PTM is seeking candidates with a minimum of seven years of executive leadership experience in progressively responsible management positions; undergraduate degree required, advanced degree preferred; prior experience in a not-for-profit setting museum and/or early childhood development experience is preferred; a proven innovator and visionary with the ability to lead and inspire staff, engage and effectively interact with the Board, and create a broader base of support for young children and their families; a proven fundraiser with demonstrated record of success in raising philanthropic funds and major gifts, securing grants, and generating revenue; ability to work effectively with Board and staff to develop and implement fundraising strategies; proven capacity to cultivate current and prospective donors; demonstrated ability to work successfully with governmental and political bodies; previous experience developing and implementing effective marketing strategies, programs, and services; financial and business acumen; committed to delivering fiscal stability and sustainability; excellent communication skills, both written and oral; strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail; the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time knowledge and experience in the Philadelphia marketplace is preferred; proven ability to be a visionary and strategic leader; proven excellent relationship builder and fundraiser.
