NASNA Award Winners

We are proud to announce that One Step Away is the
winner of a North American Street Newspaper Association (NASNA) Award for Best Interview, for our story on University of Pennsylvania Professor Dennis Culhane that debuted in our December 2011 issue. In the interview Professor Culhane speaks about homelessness, the housing first model, and a shift in public policy. To read the articles that won, click here!
Making Change
"I'm just one step away from success!"
As a single father,
Mike's children are his top priority. He used his earnings from One Step Away to obtain housing and provide a better life for his children.

Mike is among the 82% of vendors that have obtained or maintained housing since joining
One Step Away. For him and 72% of our vendors, One Step Away is their only source of income.

Witness to Innocence

Darrell, a One Step Away vendor and writer, talked with legendary actor and activist Danny Glover at the Witness to Innocence 10-year celebration in October.
Witness to Innocence's mission is to empower exonerated death row inmates and challenge the criminal justice system.

Darrell gave Mr. Glover a copy of One Step Away and chatted about the organization's cause and Mr. Glover's commitment to the abolishment of the death penalty. Look for Darrell's story about his experience in the November issue!
Vendor for a Day
A big "Thank You" to Broad Street Ministries for volunteering this Summer and Fall with our Vendor for a Day program! Volunteers are given the opportunity to experience homelessness and poverty through working with the One Step Away vendors.

Donations earned during the Vendor for a Day go directly to the homeless. If your organization would like to be part of
contact Emily Taylor at emilyt@rhd.org.
Honor Your Vendor Month
During the month of November, each donation made in honor of your vendor by name will result in free papers for that vendor.

With your support, One Step Away can continue to provide more individuals experiencing homelessness with meaningful income and personal growth opportunities, helping them attain or keep housing and break the cycle of homelessness. Learn more here.
