The Upper Darby Senior Center located at the Upper Darby Township Community Complex, 326 Watkins Avenue, services area seniors 60 years and over in all aspects of their lives. Funded thru Upper Darby Township and County Offices of Services for the Aging (COSA), the center is multi-faceted and also provides nutrition services both in-house and on a homebound basis.
Our Mission Statement reads: “Upper Darby Senior Center is dedicated to improving the quality of living for older adults through community resources and social, recreational, educational, physical and nutritional programs.”
This mission is achieved six days a week as seniors participate in a myriad of programs including line dancing, bingo, crafts, card games, ping-pong, tai-chai, and walking activities. There is also a full-size fitness room, poolroom, and gymnasium on the premises as well as a computer lab, outside garden, and hairdressing salon. Services are also offered concerning legal assistance, medical information, and housing opportunities.
Special events such as field trips and health fairs take place, and each year the center hosts several of the Delaware County Senior Games events.
In 2005, the Upper Darby Senior Center earned the distinction of being a nationally accredited center by meeting the rigid standards required for this recognition.
