Family CareGiver Toolbox
How to Avoid Medicare "Landmines" If your loved one hits the Medicare prescription drug “donut hole,” make sure they let their doctor know! People with chronic conditions, such as Alzheimer’s disease or diabetes, are more likely to reach the “donut hole.” When someone on Medicare reaches the “donut hole,” they have to pay a higher share of the cost of their prescriptions. When that happens, the doctor may be able to switch your loved one to a less expensive drug that works just as well as what they are taking now. The doctor also may be able to supply free samples of a medication. | ||
Online Technology for CareGivers
The Number of Caregivers Continues to Grow!
Two out of every 5 adult Americans are family caregivers! According to new survey by the Pew Research Center, 39% of the adult U.S. population are now family caregivers – up from 30% in 2010. Interestingly, men are now almost as likely to say they are family caregivers as women are (37% of men; 40% of women). The survey also shows that caregivers use online technology to navigate health care much more often than non-caregivers do.
