HPV Awareness - Compensation for Participants

MEE Seeks African-American Women from North and West Philadelphia for an HPV Awareness Study (Compensation Included)
MEE is partnering with beauty salons in West and North Philadelphia in a unique community awareness campaign speaking to African American women. The focus is HPV, a sexually transmitted infection that can cause genital warts and, in some cases, lead to cervical cancer. Black women have a 50% higher rate of cervical cancer than White women and are twice as likely to die from it.
That's why MEE is conducting this community education campaign. We know that women discuss personal topics, including sexual health issues, while they are at their salon. At the same time, detailed awareness of HPV and cervical cancer is low in our community. Now, we have asked salon owners and stylists to become partners in this campaign, help us introduce the topic of HPV and cervical cancer and invite women to a series of information sessions in January and February to learn more.
MEE wants to expand our pool of participating salons and get the word out to women in North and West Philadelphia who are interested in attending information sessions. Here's how you can help spread the word to women you know.
Participation Compensation:
Each woman who attends an HPV information session and agrees to participate in 2 follow-up phone surveys will receive a $40 certificate for hair products and services at her participating salon, along with a $10 gift card for each completed phone survey.
Participation Criteria:
- Must be a young African American woman, ages 18-26
OR
- An African American mother (or other female primary caregiver) of a girl ages, 9-17
- Must live in West Philadelphia (zip codes 19104, 19143, 19139, 19131 and 19151) OR North Philadelphia (zip codes 19132, 19133, 19121, 19122, 19130 and 19123)
- Must go to a participating/partner beauty salon in West or North Philadelphia for services at least once a month
