Youth (12-18 years) Can Join "Get Healthy Philly Youth Council

Get Healthy Philly is an initiative that aims to reduce chronic disease by encouraging healthy eating, active lifestyles, and smoke-free living. To further this initiative, we are looking for motivated young adults to serve on the Get Healthy Philly Youth Council! Spaces are limited. We will be reviewing applications on a first submitted, first reviewed basis.

Please share this opportunity with youth in your family, neighborhoods, and community organizations. We look forward to working with our youth to make a difference in their city by promoting healthy lifestyles!

Who can be a Get Healthy Youth Council member? Ø Youth and young adults, aged 12-18.
Ø Have leadership qualities and experiences.
Ø Be alcohol, drug and tobacco-free.
Ø Be devoted to living healthy, active lives.
Ø Have active email and social media accounts (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc.).

What are the benefits to membership?
Ø Leadership opportunities—Work with leaders in Philadelphia and throughout the state to encourage healthy change.
Ø Real world experience—Learn about effective public speaking, writing, and research by participating in discussions with community organizations and youth groups.
Ø Social media skills—Learn techniques to use social media communication to further the Youth Council’s objectives and goals.
Ø Fun and adventure—Work on exciting projects and attend free events and conferences with other teens.

How do youth apply?
Ø Submit a resume and a one-page essay on why you want to be part of the Youth Council toRodney.robbins@phila.gov.
Ø Applications are due by October 29, 2013.
Ø If selected, you will be contacted by Get Healthy Philly staff directly.
